Notes on classes

  • Competitors are divided into classes according to their sex and age. Women may compete in men’s classes.
  • Competitors aged 20 or younger (juniors) are eligible to run in each class up to the end of the calendar year in which they reach the given age. They are entitled to compete in older classes up to and including 21.
  • Competitors aged 21 or older (seniors) are eligible to run in each class from the beginning of the calendar year in which they reach the given age. They are entitled to compete in younger classes down to and including 21.
  • The main competition classes are called W21 and M21, for women and men respectively. All age groups of competitors are eligible to enter the 21 year age class.
  • Classes may further be subdivided on skill into E (Elite for 21 age class only) A and B grades which indicate degree of difficulty.
  • Classes and grades may be altered or merged at the organisers’ discretion, for example if a class does not attract enough entrants.

NZ Relay Championships

Monday 13 April 2020 – Whirokino – Waitarere Beach

  • SI Air+ contactless punching will be on for all classes.

Team composition

  • All teams (except Open Short) must contain at least one female runner who may run any one of the legs.
  • The length of leg 2 on red classes is shorter than legs 1 and 3.
  • Small clubs with fewer than 30 members may combine with another club to form a composite team in any class. These composite teams will be an official entry.
  • The Open Short class is intended for those unable to fit into a standard club team. The course run will be the same as Mixed Veterans. If you do not have a team but would like to take part in the relay, sign up for this class.
  • The NZ Relay Championships applies only to official teams. Unofficial teams may run in any class.

Class eligibility for relay legs

  • The eligible class for a competitor is their actual age class.
  • The eligible race grade (E, A, AS or B) is the grade the competitor contested for the long distance, or the middle if the long was not contested. Competitors who run an E, A or AS grade in the long distance are ineligible to run a B grade in the relay.
  • Select the class you are most likely to run on the day. There will only be a small number of extra maps in other grades and we will try to accommodate your request if you chose to change class if possible.
